New Orleans, Louisiana- After beginning the season unranked in the NJCAA Northeast USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Index, the BMCC men's outdoor track and field program made program history, shooting up to No. 5 in the Week 4 poll after two outstanding performances at the Queensborough Relays and the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational over the past two weeks.

The Panthers are one of eight Region 15 men's track and field teams in the Northeast Track and Field Index. Suffolk Community College came in at the top spot with 1,196.23 points, while Queensborough Community College and Nassau Community College were ranked ahead of BMCC in third and fourth with 645.99 points and 503.32 points. The Panthers have 306.66 points in the fifth spot, while SUNY Sullivan, Fashion Institute Of Technology, Kingsborough Community College, and Hostos are ranked below them in sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth.

The Panthers track and field program kicked off the 2024 outdoor season with a bang as freshman Tatenda Chikanyairo (Fort Lee, New Jersey) became the first individual runner in school history to qualify for the NJCAA Div. III Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the 10,000-meters, beating the qualifying standard for the event of 38:26.71 by 24 seconds at the Queensborough Relays with a time of 37:42.54.

The Panthers men's sprint medley team of Christian Davis (Queens, New York)Isiah Duffy (Brooklyn, New York)Emmanuel Agyei (Brooklyn, New York), and Joshua Germain (Brooklyn, New York) also captured first place at the Queensborough Relays, clocking in with a time of 4:06.58. Germain, who anchored the unit, made up a ton of ground down the stretch to pass CCNY's Gian-Carlo Riehl for victory.

Continuing their streak of success, the Panthers made history two weeks later. The 4x100 relay team of  Davis, Kwame Brempong (Brooklyn, New York)Dontate Creedland (Brooklyn, New York), and Germain became the first team in program history to qualify for nationals. The squad finished with a time of 47.01, surpassing the qualifying standard for the event of 48.77 by a second. This remarkable achievement, a seventh-place finish out of a competitive field of ten teams, is a testament to their hard work and potential for future success.

BMCC will look to continue to rack up the awards in two weeks when they lace it up at the Lions Outdoor Invitational on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. in Ewing, New Jersey. For more information, visit the BMCC men's Outdoor Track and Field Schedule.
