New York, New York – After putting together an excellent inaugural 2024 regular season, BMCC men's volleyball program players Chong Lin Li (New York, New York) and Eugene Villarruz (Queens, New York) were selected to the first-ever NJCAA All-Region 15 team earning 2024 NJCAA All-Region 15 First Team accolades as announced by the coaches. Miguel Trejo (Brooklyn, New York) was named to the All-Region 15 Sportsmanship Team.
Lin Li's thunderous right hand was a terror to BMCC opponents during the 2024 regular season as he posted a team-best 106 kills and five double-digit kill games with a career-high 18 in the Panther's home opening victory against Monroe-Bronx on February 29, 2024. The freshman outside hitter also led the Panthers with two double-doubles, with one coming in the program's first-ever game during a four-set road victory over Kingsborough Community College on February 24, 2024. Lin Li goes into the first-ever 2024 Region 15 Men's Volleyball Championship, leading the Region in kills per set at 2.94, also seventh in the nation.
Villarruz led the Panther's backline, handling a team-high 130 digs while posting six double-digit dig games, including three straight to end the regular season. The Queens, New York native put up a career-high 22 digs against Nassau Community College on March 9, 2024, and led the Region during the regular season with 3.61 digs per set, which was also good for sixth in the nation. He was also third on the team with 20 assists.
Trejo was second on the Panthers this season with 36 assists, headlined by a career night to end the regular season with a game and career-high 18 assists and 11 digs, which was also a career-best against Kingsborough Community College on March 28, 2024.
The Panthers will be the third seed for the first-ever 2024 Region 15 Men's Volleyball Championship at Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle, New York, on Saturday, April 6.
