New York, New York - After tossing the BMCC baseball program's first double-digit strikeout effort for the first time since the 2018 season, sophomore pitcher Peter Marino (New York, New York) received CUNYAC Community College Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors as announced by The City of New York City Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) this afternoon. The honor is the first of the season for Marino.
The New York, New York native was brilliant last weekend, leading the Panthers to their second victory of the season with another outstanding pitching performance and a complete game victory, tossing a career-high 10 strikeouts while allowing nine hits and four runs over seven innings while walking two batters during a 9-4 CUNYAC victory over Bronx Community College. Marino, who uncorked a career-best 116 pitches in game one, put up the program's first double-digit strikeout effort since the 2018 season when Steven Crawford struck out 12 batters during a 15-5 victory over Monroe-Bronx on April 24, 2018.
Marino also got it done at the plate, going 3-for-9 (.333 batting average) with five steals in four games, including two multi-steal games during a road doubleheader against Bronx Community College with nine walks, three hits, and two RBIs.
Marino leads the Panthers with 19 strikeouts, and his two wins are tied for second-most in a single season and all-time program history. Marino also leads the Panthers with a 3.21 ERA, and he has limited batters to a .228 average against him, which is also tops on the team.
