On October 26, Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) President Anthony E. Munroe and SUNY Empire State University President Lisa Vollendorf signed a memorandum of understanding and ceremonially acknowledged a transfer agreement between the two institutions.

The BMCC/SUNY Empire University Pathways Transfer program will enable BMCC Business and Paramedic graduates — as well as others with an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science or Associate of Applied Science degree — to complete a seamless transfer to a bachelor’s degree program at SUNY Empire that blends online, independent and in-person studies for an outstanding educational experience.

“At BMCC, we highly value the option of an online educational experience for our students and graduates,” said President Munroe in the signing ceremony held in the President’s Conference Room at 199 Chambers Street. “The transfer agreement reflects the deep commitment of both BMCC and SUNY Empire to provide an extraordinary academic experience for students whose talent, diverse backgrounds and ambition will lead their respective fields into a brighter future.”

BMCC Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Erwin Wong says that the partnership “will provide our graduates with an excellent opportunity to complete their baccalaureate degree fully online.  This is a particularly exciting relationship, as Empire State University shares in our commitment to provide students with a quality education that will lead to an in-demand baccalaureate degree and the potential to pursue an in-demand professional career with life-sustaining wages.”

The accessibility and convenience of an online education can be a life-changing opportunity for working students and those who are caring for their families.

For more than 50 years, SUNY Empire has delivered online and blended degree programs tailored to accommodate students’ individual goals.

At BMCC, umbrella partnerships with more than a dozen bachelor degree programs, and over 50 articulation agreements organized by academic major reflect the college’s strategic goal to increase student retention and transfer rates.

The BMCC Academic Advisement and Transfer Center (ATC) offers advisement to students who are planning their next step after graduation from BMCC. They can be reached by stopping in at 199 Chambers Street, Room S-108 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; by emailing aatc@bmcc.cuny.edu or calling (212) 220-8315.
