New York, New York - The
BMCC Women's Soccer team registered their first win on the 2023 season with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Tigers of
Queensborough Community College.
The scoring came early and often with the 1st goal coming in 10th minute off the foot of
Nathali Ocampo-Lopez (Quimbaya, Colombia). The Panthers added two more goals in the first half with goals coming from Shirly Rivas (Azogues, Ecuador) and Yamile Bastidas (Quito, Ecuador) and took a 3-0 lead into the half. The second half was more of the same for the Panthers as Ocampo-Lopez once again found the back of the net just 5 minutes in to give BMCC a 4-0 lead. In the 87th minute, Ocampo-Lopez registered her 3rd goal of the game, and the first Panther with at least 3 goals in a women's soccer game since 2017, pushing the lead to 5-0. Goalkeeper Josely Jimenez recorded 3 saves and her first career shut-out.
With the win, BMCC
improves to (1-2 overall, 1-0 CUNYAC
) and will look to continue their winning ways when they take on the Wave of Kingsborough
Community College on Tuesday, October 3rd at 12:30pm from the friendly confines of Pier 40.
