New York, New York – After both setting personal bests during the Panther's opening week of the 2023 season, BMCC women's volleyball sophomore Garyana Altidor (Queens, New York) and freshman Silvia Chen (New York, New York) were named CUNYAC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week as announced by the Conference on Monday. The honor is the first for Altidor and Chen.
 
Altidor has established herself in 2023 as one of the Panthers' most improved players handling the backline this season with 67 digs in the first three games, including a career-high 33 against Hostos Community College in the first game of the Panthers CUNYAC double dual. She has also gotten it done on offense as a server, placing six service aces in three matches and six assists.
 
Chen made a major splash for the Panthers during their three matches this week as the program had big shoes to fill with 2022 Region 15 Setter of the Year Xheni Doci departing after last season. The New York, New York native registered three double-digit assist games, including two straight double-doubles in the Panthers CUNYAC double dual over the weekend. After dishing out a team-high 10 assists during the Panther's opening match, she followed it up with a career-high 23 assists to go along with 10 digs against Hostos. She followed up that performance with another career-best with 22 service aces while handing out 15 assists in game two against Bronx Community College. The 22 service aces were one short of the single-game program record set by Emmanuella Aurel (Port Au Prince, Haiti) against the Broncos on October 4, 2022.
 
The Panthers will look to get to .500 as they stay in Manhattan and travel up to the Fashion Institute of Technology on Thursday, September 14, for a Region 15 battle at 7 p.m. For more information, please visit the BMCC Women's Volleyball Schedule Page.
