BMCC Men’s Basketball’s All-Time Leading Scorer, Quran Dublin, Signs Professional Contract With TSV Bargteheide

New York, New York – Two-time CUNYAC Community College Player of the Year and BMCC Basketball's All-Time Leading Scorer Quran Dublin (Harlem, NY) will begin his professional career after signing to play for the TSV Bargteheide BEES in Germany.

Dublin is one of the most decorated Panther basketball players in school history, becoming the first player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark and scored 1,159 points for his career, which is the most in BMCC men's basketball history. Dublin was also a part of one of the most successful runs in Panthers' men's basketball history, helping BMCC capture two straight CUNYAC Community College Men's Basketball Championships during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons with back-to-back 20 win seasons and a 41-18 record overall.

Dublin was also named a 2018-19 NJCAA All-American Third Team selection after leading the Panthers to a second straight 20-win season at 20-9 overall while also finishing as BMCC men's basketball program's all-time leader in career three-pointers made with 179 and concluding his illustrious career in the top ten in program history in three other statistical categories with 205 career assists and 89 career steals, third and fourth in program history, and tying for seventh all-time 304 career rebounds.

Below is a Q&A with Quran Dublin his time, thoughts, and memories with BMCC Athletics:

Q: Why did you attend the Borough of Manhattan Community College? Talk about the academic resources at BMCC, from the professors to the support services, and their impact on helping you achieve your educational goals?
"Lawrence Todman, one of my brothers and family to me. We grew up together and have been hooping together since we were kids. One thing we spoke about was playing on the same college team, and sure enough, when I found out he was at BMCC, where I was looking to attend, it was an easy decision for me." "I was a business administration major, and my professors taught me a lot. Their influence and encouragement in the classroom helped prepare me for my future educational career."

Q: You had an accomplished basketball career for the BMCC men's basketball program, which included back-to-back CUNYAC Championships during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons while becoming the program's first-ever 1,000-point scorer. Talk about your experience and the relationship with your teammates, and what it was like to practice with such talented players as Anthony McClean, Viktor Kovacevic, and Alex Humphreys?
"Playing at BMCC was a fantastic experience. If I could do those two years again, I would in a heartbeat. We were teammates and a tight-knit family. From players to our coaching staff, on & off the court. We all had one goal & that was to win, so we pushed each other every day. 41 wins, 18 losses, not so bad in two years. I shared the court with many talented guys Ant, Vic, Alex, Terrell, Lawrence, Mark, Aliou, Eric Johnson Jr, Curtis ( CJ ), Ashaun, Dev, and Ray. I could go on forever. From year one to year two, this group was a joy to compete with during practice cause nobody cared who you were and went at you no matter what."

Q: In BMCC's Inside the Lair Episode 2, you talked about your chemistry with your teammates on and off the court. After your 2018 CUNYAC championship, your squad got off to a hot start with a massive win streak to begin the season and a climb to #2 in the National Rankings. How much was attributed to the team chemistry and your winning mentality?
"Either one doesn't matter. We came out hot & it was simple. We wanted a ring, so our hunger, drive, and focus were at a different level. Then adding Terrell & Ashaun to the lineup, our confidence was already high, so imagine it when we know two more brothers are back on the floor with us. Our chemistry as a team was built on the court but mainly off the court because we did everything together & most importantly, we trusted one another."

Q: You were an NJCAA All-American in 2018-19 and captured back-to-back CUNYAC Player of the Year honors. How much did your teammate's push in practice help to achieve those accolades?
"They pushed me a lot, and our practices were harder than the games. So my brothers, day in & day out, would challenge me to be better. Also, our coaches as well. Then besides that, I'd push myself and put in more work because I knew what's done in the dark will come into the light. So achieving those accomplishments was something I was chasing, and they all happened naturally because of me doing one thing, & that's putting in the work."

Q: What was going through your mind against Suffolk Community College on January 25, 2019, as you stepped to the free throw line two points away from being the program's first 1,000-point scorer in school history? How did it feel when you connected on those two shots?
"If I'm not mistaken, I think we allowed an open three-point shot to Suffolk & I don't know if they scored, but I was just upset about how he was open to the begin with because I was so focused on winning. I didn't even know I was two points away from 1,000, and I thought it was a regular timeout when the game stopped briefly. It didn't really click until after the game because our focus, as I said before, was on winning, so my focus was the same as always when I got to the free-throw line. Hey, two free points."

Q: What was your favorite memory during your two seasons with the BMCC men's basketball program?
"Sophomore year and the 2018-19 CUNYAC Championship game. The atmosphere & energy was crazy. That's a game I'll never forget, if you want me to be honest. I will keep it at that because I made a lot of memories in that school, on & off the court. After winning our first championship, if you watch the end of the game, I looked into the crowd, pointed at my parents, ran straight to them, and hugged them. There is also this photo of Lawrence and me, and I remember saying to him, "I told you I was going to bring you a title, my boy." We laughed and smiled for the camera."

Q: At York College, you tore it up again in the CUNYAC, leading the Cardinals in four statistical categories and becoming the Cardinal's first All-Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) selection since 2013-14. Were there any similarities between the basketball culture there and BMCC that helped you achieve the same success?
"At York, there were similarities, but I don't think no team would live up to the culture we created at BMCC. As a senior, I know what I'm capable of doing, so the success came from again me putting in the work & having my guys and coaches push me so I'm ready for whatever."

Q: On BMCC's Inside the Lair Episode segment, you mentioned your tireless work ethic a few years ago, including shooting 1,000 jump shots a day. After all the work and grinding every day in the gym, how does it feel to get a chance to play professionally?
"After all the hard work, all the sweat, and tears, to finally have an opportunity to play professionally. It just means now I got to double it and go harder. So more work, sweat, tears & I love everything about it. It's the grind, and you have to love it."

Q: The relationships with coaches are everything in a player's success. Which coach helped you the most toward getting to the pro level?
"They all did. Every single coach I've had from a kid up until today. They all play a part. I've taken information from each of them and applied it to my life on and off the court every day. But if I had to pick someone who helped the most, it'll be my father. Now he's not a coach, but as a kid, when he'll come to my games, he'd ask me questions to test my knowledge of basketball, he'll give more words of wisdom & let me know when I'm doing something wrong or moving too fast or overthinking. He would help me stay locked into the game and forget everything else going on outside the court."

Q: Game preparation and film study are essential from the two-year to the four-year levels. You have told me you love watching film. How have you utilized it to improve your game and basketball IQ as you head to the pros?
"I'm currently going over our team plays & watching old game footage as I'm doing these questions, but I've used film study to grow as a player & limit mistakes. So transitioning to the Pros, it's more or less the same. Continue to grow & limit my mistakes as much as possible. I'm still in the process of adapting to the style of play, but I know once I adjust, the sky is the limit."

Q: Now that you are suiting up for TSV Bargteheide Bees, have you had a chance to talk to your teammates?
"Now that I am a member of the TSV Bargteheide BEES, I still speak to 80% of my teammates. Not every day, but I still keep in touch with them."

Q: Growing up in Harlem, New York, and going to Germany is a major cultural adjustment. How are you dealing with it?
"The only thing I haven't adjusted to yet is the time difference. But everything else is slowly coming into play, and I am having fun learning the language so far, so good."

Q: After success at the two-year and four-year levels, what advice would you give college players looking to play professionally like yourself?
"The best advice is it doesn't matter where you are. Keep dominating and putting in the work. It'll take time and be a journey, so if this is something you truly want, don't let anyone or anything get in the way. Keep fighting even if you don't have any fight left because once you achieve that goal, whether basketball or something else, that feeling will be amazing, and once you get there, you will keep leveling up!"
