BMCC Theatre Program Presents World Premiere of “To the Unknown Soldiers”

BMCC’s Theatre Program will present the world premiere of “To the Unknown Soldiers”—a show that travels through time, from 1922 Harlem to the 1918 trenches of World War 1 France—at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center’s Theatre 2, starting on April 22 and running through April 26. The production, being staged for the first time, was written by playwright Krystle N. Adams and directed by BMCC Theatre Professor Lori Ann Kee. The show follows a young woman’s journey to uncover the history of Black soldiers who fought for liberty and equality on the front lines, despite being treated as second class citizens at home. “It follows them during the war, and after, and it explores how they were treated, it explores racism, it explores identity and brotherhood,” said Ms. Adams, during an interview featured in the video above. “I think any person who sees the show will find something they can connect with or someone they can connect to." Admission is free and open to the public. Learn more about the show here.

Budgeting

BMCC Receives NYC Participatory Budgeting Grant: Students Can Apply Before April 10

BMCC has once again been awarded funding from the Mayor’s Civic Engagement Commission to engage the campus community in the city’s participatory budgeting process. As the College has done over the past three cycles, BMCC will be hiring student ambassadors to conduct “get out the vote” activities on campus. Students will be paid $599 for 24 hours of work.  The process, called the The People’s Money, is a direct opportunity for BMCC students, staff, and faculty to help decide how to spend over $3 million of city-wide mayoral expense funding. Projects have been submitted by residents and communities across the five boroughs and now it’s time for New Yorkers to vote. Students who might be interested in becoming a student ambassador should click this link and apply before April 10. For more info contact Doug Israel, Director of Government and Community Relations at disrael@bmcc.cuny.edu
