BMCC has been ranked #5 for Best Associate Degree Program in Data Science for 2026 by TechGuide. Tech Guide—a unit of Tri-Town Media, created to provide up-to-date, comprehensive, and easy-to-use informational resources for its readers—says the recognition reflects the program’s excellence and impact in preparing students for success in Analytics careers. Demand for data-savvy professionals has led to the development of associate degree programs that provide a solid foundation in data analytics principles and skills in a more accessible and efficient format compared to traditional four-year degrees, according to Tech Guide. BMCC has established clear, structured pathways for students to continue their studies in Data Science at John Jay College and City Tech within CUNY, explained Mathematics Professor, Dr. Ivan Retamoso, who is Deputy Chairperson of the Data Science program. "BMCC’s recognition as one of the top Associate Degree programs in Data Science nationwide reflects CUNY’s mission to expand access to high-quality, affordable STEM education and to advance equitable pathways to opportunity," he said.
Students from across academic disciplines filled BMCC’s Fiterman Hall Conference Center on January 15 for a Women in STEM networking event. Organized by the College’s Women in STEM initiative, the evening event featured representatives from several Science, Technology, Engineering and Math focused companies and organizations who shared information about internships, jobs, and other hands-on opportunities. Organizations at the event included Arup, an engineering and consulting firm; BioBus; the DNA Learning Center; the Hudson River Park Trust; LifeSciNYC / Upper West Strategies; The New York Academy of Sciences; Sanofi, a pharmaceutical company; and the Tri-Institutional STEM outreach partnership involving Cornell, Rockefeller, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. “Our hope is that students walked away feeling empowered, built authentic connections, and are now aware of the many internships and pathways available to them,” said BMCC’s Director of Research, Dr. Odaelys Pollard.
BMCC Student Says Study Abroad Experience in D.R. was Transformative
A group of BMCC students spent a portion of their winter break studying in the Dominican Republic as part of the College’s partnership with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). The students were enrolled in Latin American & Caribbean Society. The course title is From Plantations to Parks—Environmental Stewardship and Justice in the Caribbean. BMCC Modern Languages major and Student Government Association (SGA) member Sean Dunbar said the experience was transformative. “Through this program, I have learned to value different global perspectives, which has not only made me a better student, but a better person,” said Dunbar. “From my experience studying abroad, I know that becoming a globalized learner and understanding diversity has impacted me intellectually, emotionally, and socially. However, the true beauty of this experience is that it will not only impact me, but others as I pass on the knowledge and experiences I gained.” More than 190 BMCC students studied abroad during Winter Break.
