Moving Ceremony Remembers and Reflects on 9/11/2001

Beneath a deep blue sky on the breezy morning of September 11, BMCC students, faculty, and staff gathered in the plaza at the main entrance of 199 Chambers Street to remember the events of that same day more than two decades earlier, on September 11, 2001. Eight BMCC community members were lost on September 11, 2001, and in the 24 years since, more have been sickened, and many have died from illnesses related to toxic dust and smoke from the attack. BMCC also lost the original Fiterman Hall when it was damaged beyond repair by debris from the collapse of 7 World Trade Center. The new Fiterman Hall opened in 2012.  “Today, we honor and today, we commit to the positive changes that will define our future,” said Student Affairs Vice President, Dr. Marva Craig. “Thank you for being here to remember, to honor and to stand together.”

BMCC Paramedic Program Celebrates Fall 2025 Graduation

BMCC’s Department of Allied Health Sciences hosted its Fall 2025 Paramedic Program graduation ceremony on September 10 in the main theatre at 199 Chambers Street. The event recognized A.A.S. graduates of the Paramedic program, as well as students who completed the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) basic course, which prepares them for the EMT certification exam and entry into the Paramedic program. “You are about to become part of a key component in the New York State EMS system,” said Ryan P. Greenberg, Director of the New York State Bureau of EMS. “Certified paramedics respond to and serve the needs of almost four million EMS calls each year.” Statewide, there has been a 17.5% drop in the number of active, certified EMS workers between 2019 and 2022. Emergency medicine programs like the one at BMCC, are helping to bridge the gap while providing a path to fulfilling careers, enabling 87% of students to find employment within six months of graduation.
