Women’s and Men’s Soccer Teams Win 2023 CUNYAC CC Championship
Both men’s and women’s soccer teams at BMCC took the 2023 CUNYAC Community College Championship, held at Queens College this the past weekend. On October 14, the men’s team erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with three second-half goals in a 3-2 victory over Kingsborough College. The following day, the women’s team rolled to a 7-0 victory over Queensborough College. Sophomore Abdul Mumin Seidu received the 2023 CUNYAC Community College Men's Soccer Championship Most Valuable Player honors. Center for Career Development Fall 2023 Job Fair a Resounding Success
More than 580 students—a 40% increase over the Fall 2022 job fair—filled the BMCC gymnasium for the Center for Career Development’s Fall 2023 Job Fair on October 18. The gym roared with conversation as students met with employer representatives who were on hand to accept resumes and conduct initial interviews. Employers at the fair represented job sectors ranging from healthcare to finance, government positions to retail. See photo gallery.
Speech, Communication and Theatre Arts Students and Faculty Captivate Audience at PAC-NYC Monologue Slam
Students and faculty from BMCC's Speech, Communications and Theatre Arts department delivered solid and moving performances before a packed house during a monologue slam from the Vartan and Clare Gregorian stage at the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC-NYC) October 18. “The monologue slam is an hour- long performance that features a series of monologues weaved together by the beat and sound of the drum and spoken word,” said Theatre Professor Angela Polite who curated the event. Students and faculty from the Speech, Communications and Theatre Arts department will perform again at the PAC NYC on December 20.
Health Education Professors Break Down Breast Cancer Risk Factors and Wellness Strategies
BMCC recognizes Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2023 this month with an information display, self-breast exam workshop, breast cancer prevention and treatment webinar, and more. Breast cancer is most diagnosed in women in the U.S., and the leading cause of death among Black and Hispanic women, says Health Education Professor Hardaye Sharie R. Hansen. Research studies reveal high levels of estrogen to be associated with increased risk of breast cancer, says Health Education Professor and Deputy Chairperson Gloria Shine McNamara, who shares strategies to mitigate that risk.
Music Major Malik Jardine Only CUNY Student in Masterclass with Acclaimed French Organist
BMCC Music major Malik Jardine will perform in an organ master class featuring world-acclaimed organist Thomas Ospital beginning at 7 p.m. on October 25 at Brick Presbyterian Church located at 1140 Park Avenue in Manhattan. Ospital is a professor of organ at the Paris Conservatoire and titular organist of St. Eustache in Paris. Among the four students performing, Malik Jardine is the only one from CUNY. The event is free and open to the public.
BMCC Hosts National Transfer Student Week Events
The BMCC Academic Advisement and Transfer Center (AATC) hosted several events for National Transfer Student Week from October 16 through October 19. Public Safety and FEMA Hosting Emergency Preparedness Presentation

Trainings on “Understanding Muslim Experiences and Combating Anti-Muslim Bias” and “Understanding Jewish Experiences and Antisemitism”: Virtual Sessions offered November 17 and November 28
The Office of Compliance and Diversity invites BMCC students, faculty and staff to attend two trainings presented by the New York City Commission on Human Rights.
- Monday, October 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Fiterman Hall, Rooms 1404/05/06: “Understanding Jewish Experiences and Antisemitism" will address antisemitism as well as its impact on Jewish New Yorkers and the larger society. It will introduce Jewish history and practices and outline best practices for working with Jewish New Yorkers.
- A virtual session of “Understanding Muslim Experiences and Combating Anti-Muslim Bias” will be offered on November 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- A virtual session of “Understanding Jewish Experiences and Antisemitism” will be offered on November 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The workshops will also elaborate on protections for Muslim and Jewish New Yorkers against discrimination under the City Human Rights Law. Please fill out this form to register for the trainings.

TSN aims to provide students with direct connection to senior admission representatives at highly selective partner institutions and personalized support to help them navigate the transfer admissions process.
